About Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Scheme 2025

The “PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana” is an agricultural irrigation scheme launched by the Central Government of India for all the farmers of the country. This scheme was first launched on 1st July 2015 by the government of India with an aim of “Har Khet Ko Pani” to promote, develop, and disseminate micro irrigation technology for agriculture and horticulture development with modern scientific knowledge, and promote micro irrigation technology in water-scarce, stressed, and critical groundwater blocks/districts.

Under this scheme, the government provides financial assistance to selected farmers for the installation of irrigation components under micro irrigation (all assets/water sources for this must be mandatorily linked with a micro irrigation system to achieve water use efficiency. In this scheme, the process of installation of drip or sprinkler irrigation is done in the farmers’ fields for selected crops. This scheme works on enhancing water use efficiency at the farm level through micro irrigation, also supports micro-level water storage and water conservation/management activities to supplement source creation for micro irrigation.

Update Under PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana 2025

  • According to the reports, implementation of PM Krishi Sinchai Yojana for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26 has been approved by the central government of India in December 2021. However, approval of the groundwater component under PMKSY-HKKP has provisionally been recorded till 2021-22 only for committed liabilities, which have been extended subsequently till the completion of ongoing work.
  • Land acquisition is one of the major bottlenecks in the implementation of irrigation projects. By the construction of a distribution network of about 55,290 km through underground pipelines, land acquisition of about 76,594 hectares has been avoided. SCADA-based water distribution and micro irrigation in some of the PMKSY projects have improved water use efficiency.
  • Physical and financial progress monitoring of projects through a dedicated dashboard, built with a management information system, has helped in monitoring progress and bottlenecks in a project in nearly real time. Issues under projects are monitored through the project monitoring group PMG portal, where issues and bottlenecks, such as land acquisition, statutory clearance requirements, etc, in a project are regularly discussed and resolved for early completion of the project.
